E3 Ecology Ltd. is a specialist ecological consultancy, primarily working in the north east (Northumberland, County Durham, Cumbria, Tyne and Wear, Teesside and North Yorkshire) but also throughout England and Scotland. We undertake all elements of ecological survey and assessment, delivering solutions based on the specific needs of our clients.

Our client base covers a broad spectrum, ranging from private individuals, through large and small business to the public sector and non-government organisations. Our team of in-house ecologists includes specialists in a variety of fields including botany, zoology, ornithology and freshwater ecology, and all have extensive experience of ecological survey and assessment in relation to both development related projects and conservation based work.

E3 are a specialist ecological consultancy, with a highly skilled, professional team, working from our purpose built premises in Wark, Northumberland. Working for E3 provides opportunities to be involved with a diverse and interesting workload and allows staff to gain an exceptional depth of experience and develop their own specialisms.

We offer a targeted in house training programme to all staff, identifying key training needs and sharing good practice and provide mentoring within a supportive team environment. Typically, Graduate Ecologists are taken on with a two year initial contract and the potential to take 2-3 months off in the winter to travel or pursue conservation projects. Staff progression to Ecologist and Senior Ecologist level is based on the CIEEM Competency Framework in order to develop and maintain high level technical and transferable skills.

Senior Ecologist/Ecologist

We are seeking a senior ecologist and/or ecologist to join our young dynamic friendly tream.

We are recruiting at Ecologist and Senior Ecologist level

Location: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire or Scottish Borders (there may be some flexibility for the right candidate).

Package: £27-45k depending on experience and position.

Full time (4-day week may be considered).

Role will be a mix of fieldwork/office based, with potential for some remote working.

The ideal candidate will have:

Bat (class 2) and newt licences, or sufficient experience to acquire licences
Good botanical skills, at least to phase 1 level
GIS (ideally QGIS) experience and excellent IT skills
CIEEM Associate or Full Membership, or sufficiently experienced to acquire membership
Excellent client liaison and project management skills
Be a strong team player
Ambition and drive
Tree climbing experience or interest an advantage but not essential
Minimum 18 months experience

Assistant Bat and Newt Surveyors

If you are interested in getting some experience with bat and newt surveys and have a few evenings and mornings free per month, we use assistant surveyors on an ‘ad hoc’ basis for evening work between mid-March and September. You will be paid per survey and training is provided.
