Richard Thompson BSc MSc

Richard has a particular interest in mammals and fungi, and he does the majority of our specialist badger survey work, camera trapping and waxcap surveys.  He has completed many surveys for mammal species such as badgers, beaver, otter, Scottish wildcat, red squirrel and pine marten in the Highlands as well as conducting research projects on field mice populations on remote Scottish Islands. This has included the extensive use of camera traps, small mammal traps, infra-red and thermal imaging equipment. In addition, he has undertaken numerous bat, great crested newt and reptile surveys. Working with a number of organisations he has conducted many bird surveys across the North East and Scotland as well as invertebrate surveys for bees, butterflies and freshwater invertebrates. On a larger scale Richard has an interest in habitat restoration and has worked on a number of projects in Northumberland and Scotland increasing areas and opportunities for nature
